Meet the Rommies

In the summer of 2016, Collin, Matt, and Tierney moved into an apartment in the quaint Chicago neighborhood of Andersonville. Once all the essentials had been moved in, the Rommies noticed the giant, empty wall in their living room and knew what must be done: set up Tierney’s projector and live out their home theater dreams. During an inaugural screening of Mad Max: Fury Road, the Rommies started brainstorming the insane idea of curating and hosting a film festival out of their living room. After months of stalling (mostly on Collin’s part) and basking in late night niche film arguments from bed (mostly on Tierney’s part), the Inaugural 1F Film Festival was finally willed into existence (mostly on Matt’s part).

The fest was a rousing success, but, unfortunately, before the Rommies could host the 2nd Annual 1F Film Festival, Collin and Matt abandoned their T girl and left Chicago for less humid pastures. When the anniversary of the festival came around, the Rommies started discussing a way to revive the concept in a virtual capacity. Matt and Tierney argued that such an idea had never been easier in the world of streaming and podcasting. Collin argued that such an idea was unnecessary because the last thing the world needed was ANOTHER podcast about movies (but, really, they all knew he was just stalling again). In any case, after weeks of quarantine (mostly on COVID-19’s part), Matt and Tierney wore Collin down and Another Film Pobcass was born!

The goal of this experiment is to be as inclusive as possible, so most movies selected for discussion will be available on some streaming platform. Upcoming film selections/pobcass episodes can be found in the Podcasts section of the website, as well as a list of options for streaming the film online. Join the Rommies as they rewatch old favorites, introduce each other to personal favorites, and discover all new favorites!

Collin has always loved movies. From an early age, his happy place has been in front of the largest screen possible, getting lost in whatever world was contained in the VHS tape / 35mm film reel / DVD / blu-ray disc / DCP / Streaming Wars. In college, Collin’s collection was so extensive, he was regularly told he should be running a Blockbuster out of his dorm room. (He never looked into it, but he was pretty sure that was frowned upon in the Resident Hall policies. (His current bank account wishes he would have done it anyway.)) While he has no way of proving it, he is fairly confident he is one of the “power users” that MoviePass was intentionally blocking as their stock prices circled the drain. Nowadays, Collin lives in Denver, CO, where he moonlights at a local theater and continues to see obscene amounts of movies.

Matt

Matt rambles on about movies, comic books, art, trivia, and being a gaaaay. Matt studied screenwriting at the illustrious DePaul University, going on to intern in Los Angeles for a whopping three months. He studied improv and sketch comedy in Chicago before making it big as permanent celebrity guest host of Saturdays Nights Live (pronounced Liv). He now resides in Los Angeles, CA, guiding tours at LACMA and forgetting people’s names. He’s risk averse, but once fell off a scooter so bad that he broke his watch and messed up his elbow something fierce (and almost ripped his Beyoncé tank top). In third grade, he performed Kenny Loggins’ “Return To Pooh Corner” dressed like Christopher Robin. One of the previous statements was a lie.

He never married.

Tierney is a lady. She lurves a good story, a good chat, and a good stare out the window whilst contemplating her existence. She studied writing at various universities, hoarding degrees. In early 2020, she learned that the lyrics to Amy Winehouse’s “Wake Up Alone” were ‘seizing my guts’ instead of ‘season my guts’ after doing an elaborate Salt Bae dance. She lives in Chicago and is typically on, in, or near a body of water. Or, at the very least, she is almost certainly drinking water.
